What is ASTM A192?

ASTM A192 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for seamless carbon steel pipes, which are widely used in high temperature and high pressure environments, especially boilers, superheaters and heat exchangers.

ASTM A192 size range

Parameters

Specification range

Outer diameter

1/8 inch to 3 inches (3.2mm to 76.2mm)

Wall thickness

1.2mm to 15mm

Length

Fixed or unfixed length, up to 22 meters

Manufacturing

ASTM A192 steel pipe adopts seamless manufacturing process, and is formed by hot rolling or cold drawing to ensure its pressure and temperature resistance. The chemical composition, size and quality are strictly controlled during the manufacturing process to ensure that it meets the requirements of high temperature and high pressure.

ASTM A192 Testing

To ensure the quality of the pipe, ASTM A192 requires several tests, including:

●Hydraulic test: to ensure that the pipe is leak-free under high pressure.

●Tensile test: to test the tensile strength and yield strength of the pipe.

●Flattening test: to ensure the pipe's resistance to deformation under external forces.

●Hardness test: to ensure that specific hardness requirements are met.

Additional treatments

According to customer requirements, ASTM A192 steel pipes can be subjected to the following additional treatments:

●Galvanizing: Enhances the corrosion resistance of the pipe.

●Rust-proof coating: Suitable for environments with high humidity or corrosion.

Related standards

ASTM A192 steel pipe is often used in conjunction with the following standards:

●ASTM A179: Standard for cold-drawn seamless low-carbon steel pipe.

●ASTM A210: Standard for seamless carbon steel pipe for medium and high temperature service.

●ASME SA192: American Society of Mechanical Engineering standard equivalent to ASTM A192.
