What Grade Is ASTM A335 P12?

The ASTM A335 standard covers seamless ferritic alloy steel pipes for high temperature service. P12 is one of the low alloy steels containing Cr and Mo. Its notable features are:

1. High temperature resistance: P12 can maintain good strength and creep resistance under high temperature environment.

2. Corrosion resistance: The addition of chromium and molybdenum elements enhances the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of P12 steel pipes.

3. High pressure adaptability: P12 has high yield strength and tensile strength and is suitable for high pressure occasions.

Production and quality standards

According to the ASTM A335 standard, the production of P12 steel pipes must meet the following requirements:

1. Manufacturing process: Seamless steel pipes are manufactured by hot rolling or cold drawing, and the necessary heat treatment process is carried out to ensure the mechanical properties of the pipes.

2. Dimensional accuracy: The outer diameter, tolerance and wall thickness of P12 steel pipes must meet strict tolerance requirements to ensure safe operation under high temperature and high pressure conditions.

3. Mechanical properties: The tensile strength of P12 must reach 415 MPa or more, the yield strength must not be less than 205 MPa, and it must have certain ductility and impact toughness.

4 Inspection and testing: All P12 steel pipes must undergo chemical composition analysis, tensile testing, hardness testing and water pressure testing before leaving the factory to ensure that the pipes meet the standard requirements.
