Schedule 40 vs. Schedule 80
Schedule 40 and schedule 80 pipe are made of the same materials. The difference in construction is in the wall thickness; the higher the wall thickness, the thicker the pipe wall.
What is Schedule 40?
Schedule 40 is a standard wall thickness that is suitable for many types of pipes, including steel, stainless steel, and PVC pipes.
Features: Moderate wall thickness, widely used in systems with moderate pressures and temperatures.
Applications: Suitable for general-purpose piping systems such as water supply, drainage, gas transmission, etc.
What is Schedule 80?
Schedule 80 is a thicker wall thickness standard, usually used for pipes that require higher strength and pressure resistance.
Features: Thicker wall thickness than Schedule 40, capable of withstanding higher pressures.
Applications: Suitable for high-pressure systems such as industrial piping, chemical processing systems, and high-pressure water pipes.
Choosing Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 pipe depends on the specific application requirements. If higher pressure resistance and durability are required, Schedule 80 is a better choice, while if cost and flow are more of a concern, Schedule 40 is more appropriate.
