What is the difference between plain carbon plate and hot-rolled steel plate?

Plain carbon plate and hot-rolled steel plate are two commonly used materials in the construction and industrial fields, and they have some differences in performance, characteristics, and applications.

Firstly, there are differences in the manufacturing process between plain carbon plates and hot-rolled steel plates. Plain carbon plates are made by processing, cold rolling, and passivating steel billets at room temperature. This manufacturing process makes the surface of ordinary carbon plates smooth and flat, with high hardness and strength. On the other hand, hot-rolled steel plates are made by processing steel billets at high temperatures. During the heating and cooling process, the crystal structure of the material changes, resulting in better ductility and toughness of the hot-rolled steel plate.

In terms of performance, there are some differences between plain carbon plate and hot-rolled steel plate. Plain carbon plates typically have high strength and hardness, making them suitable for applications that require high mechanical strength. On the other hand, hot-rolled steel plates have better ductility and toughness, and can better withstand bending and tensile forces, making them suitable for applications that require higher plasticity and toughness. In addition, the surface of ordinary carbon plates is relatively smooth, and they are often more favored in applications that require high appearance quality.

In addition to performance differences, there are also differences in application between plain carbon plates and hot-rolled steel plates. Due to its high hardness and strength, plain carbon plates are commonly used in the manufacturing of mechanical equipment parts, automotive bodies, and engineering structures. In contrast, the good ductility and toughness of hot-rolled steel plates make them widely used in fields such as manufacturing containers, pipelines, and aircraft structures that require high plasticity and toughness.

Finally, there is also a certain difference in price between plain carbon plate and hot-rolled steel plate. Due to different manufacturing processes, the manufacturing cost of hot-rolled steel plates is usually higher than that of ordinary carbon plates. Therefore, when selecting materials, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the needs and budget, and select materials that are suitable for a specific project.
