Comparison and difference between straight seam steel pipe and spiral steel pipe

Comparison and difference between straight seam steel pipe and spiral steel pipe

Both straight seam steel pipes and spiral steel pipes are two types of welded steel pipes, which have certain differences in manufacturing process, performance, and application fields. The following are the comparative differences between straight seam steel pipes and spiral steel pipes:

Manufacturing process:

Straight seam steel pipes are made by rolling strip steel plates into tubular shapes and welding them in a straight line at the seam opening. The production process of straight seam steel pipes is relatively simple and has high production efficiency. Spiral steel pipes are made by rolling strip steel plates into tubes and spiral welding them at the seams. The production process of spiral steel pipes is slightly more complex, but larger diameter steel pipes can be produced.

Performance:

Due to the distribution of welds along the axis of the pipe, the strength and compressive strength of straight seam steel pipes are relatively low. However, in terms of axial bearing capacity, straight seam steel pipes have good performance. Spiral steel pipes have a relatively high load-bearing capacity due to the spiral distribution of the weld seam. However, when subjected to external pressure, the weld seam of the spiral steel pipe bears relatively high stress.

Application field:

Due to the fact that the production materials and processes of spiral steel pipes are simpler than those of straight seam welded pipes, and their prices are relatively lower, spiral steel pipes are mainly used in fields such as low-pressure liquid transportation and structural engineering. The production process of straight seam welded pipes is more complex, with higher accuracy and quality, and is usually applied in fields such as high-pressure gas and oil transportation, building structures, and bridge pipe piles.
