The difference between drilled round steel and steel pipes

Holed round steel and seamless steel pipe are two types of steel products commonly used in the industrial field. There are some differences in their manufacturing processes, physical properties and application fields.

First of all, hole-drilled round steel is made by drilling holes in the steel billet. Hole drilling refers to drilling holes in the center of the billet to form a circular cross-section. The manufacturing process of drilled round steel is relatively simple and the cost is low. Its appearance is rough and there may be some unevenness on the surface. The diameter range of drilled round steel is usually smaller, generally 10mm to 150mm. Due to the limitations of the manufacturing process, the length of drilled round steel is shorter, generally 3m to 6m.

Seamless steel pipes are manufactured from steel billets through multiple processes. The manufacturing process of seamless steel pipes includes multiple processes such as billet heating, perforation, rolling, cooling, diameter straightening, and length setting. The manufacturing process of seamless steel pipes is complex and the cost is relatively high. Seamless steel pipes have a smoother appearance and higher surface quality. Seamless steel pipes have a larger diameter range and can produce smaller diameter pipes as well as larger diameter pipes. The length of seamless steel pipe is longer, generally 6m to 12m, and longer lengths can also be customized according to customer needs.

Secondly, there are also some differences in the physical properties of drilled round steel and seamless steel pipes. Due to the limitations of the manufacturing process, there may be many internal defects in drilled round steel, such as pores, inclusions, etc. These defects will have a certain impact on the strength and toughness of steel. Seamless steel pipes, on the other hand, are manufactured through multiple processes and have a dense internal structure, no obvious defects, and high strength and toughness.

Finally, there are also differences in the application fields of drilled round steel and seamless steel pipes. Since the manufacturing process of drilled round steel is relatively simple and the cost is low, it is mainly used in some situations where the strength and surface quality of steel are not high, such as some mechanical parts, building structures, etc. Seamless steel pipes have high strength and surface quality due to their complicated manufacturing process. They are widely used in petroleum, natural gas, chemical industry, electric power and other industries to transport liquids, gases, solids and other substances.
