First in China! Three Products from Zhanjiang Steel Pass Grade C Evaluation on the C2F Platform

Recently, three products—crude steel, medium- and heavy-gauge plates, and hot-rolled coils—manufactured by Baosteel Group's Zhanjiang Steel successfully passed the China Iron and Steel Association's Low-Carbon Emission Steel (C2F) evaluation and obtained a Grade C certificate. Zhanjiang Steel has thus become the first steel production base in the country to pass the Grade C evaluation on the C2F platform, marking another significant milestone for Baowu in its green and low-carbon transformation and the application of low-carbon metallurgical technologies.

It is reported that the C2F evaluation system was released by the China Iron and Steel Association, while the C2F platform was developed and is operated by Ouye Cloud Commerce. The system conducts carbon efficiency ratings in strict accordance with the group standard "T/CISA 452-2024 Evaluation Method for Low-Carbon Emission Steel."Carbon efficiency levels are divided into five grades, from A to E, with Grade A representing near-zero emissions. As the digital infrastructure for evaluating low-carbon steel in the steel industry, the C2F platform performs core functions such as carbon efficiency data collection, standardized verification, and certificate issuance. It is committed to providing steel enterprises with scientific, transparent, and traceable low-carbon evaluation services, while also offering a reliable basis for green procurement by downstream users. To date, the C2F platform has issued a total of 43 low-carbon steel certificates, covering more than 20 key steel enterprises such as Baosteel, Maanshan Iron & Steel, Taiyuan Iron & Steel, Shougang, and Ansteel. The platform's service capabilities and industry influence continue to grow.

In recent years, Zhanjiang Iron & Steel has actively implemented the concept of green and low-carbon development, taking the lead in adopting low-carbon short-process metallurgical technology. The company has constructed the nation's first million-metric-ton-class hydrogen-based vertical furnace, complemented by a zero-carbon electric furnace plant, and has continuously advanced green and low-carbon manufacturing practices. The low-carbon steel products that received a Grade C rating in this assessment demonstrate carbon emission levels significantly lower than the domestic industry average. These carbon reduction achievements are attributable to major innovations in steel production processes and a substantial improvement in carbon reduction capabilities. The three product categories certified in this round—crude steel, medium- and heavy-gauge plates, and hot-rolled coils—all underwent rigorous audits by third-party certification bodies in accordance with relevant industry standards.

Zhanjiang Iron & Steel's receipt of a C-level rating on the C2F platform not only reflects Baowu's technical expertise in the field of low-carbon metallurgy but also validates the C2F platform's professionalism and practicality in the area of low-carbon assessment.
