Handan Steel Launches New High-Strength Weathering Steel to Support Highway Guardrail Lightweighting and Long-Term Protection

Recently, Handan Iron & Steel Company of Hebei Iron & Steel Group successfully delivered the first batch of 500 tons of high-strength weathering steel H700HLRe, custom-developed for a domestic high-end guardrail manufacturer. All performance indicators met customer requirements, and the product will be used in key domestic expressway projects. This product achieves over 30% weight reduction in guardrails while further enhancing safety performance and service life. It has gained customer recognition and secured a second order for an additional 500 tons.

In response to the industry trend toward high-strength, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant materials for highway guardrails, Handan Steel actively advanced its product structure upgrade. The company successfully developed the high-strength weathering steel H700HLRe, which features outstanding collision energy absorption, excellent cold-forming capability, and long-term weather resistance. This product not only meets the high-grade protection standards for highways but also effectively reduces material consumption and total lifecycle costs.

During the R&D process, Handan Steel's hot-rolled product development team conducted in-depth research on the actual service environment of guardrails. Addressing customers' specific requirements for key performance indicators such as weather resistance, elongation, and yield-to-tensile strength ratio, the team optimized alloy composition design and adopted protective casting techniques. This significantly enhanced molten steel purity and overall product quality, ensuring high performance and stability.
