BaoSteel Hot-Rolled Coil Awarded Inner Mongolia's First Low-Carbon Steel Certificate

Recently, Baosteel Group's hot-rolled coil products successfully obtained the Low-Carbon Emission Steel certification from the China Iron and Steel Association, becoming the first steel product in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to receive this accreditation. This certification not only signifies Baosteel's authoritative recognition in low-carbon manufacturing but also reflects its leading practices in applying Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technology and establishing a comprehensive green manufacturing system across the entire supply chain.

During the R&D process for these certified hot-rolled coil products, LCA technology provided critical support for carbon reduction. Based on detailed carbon footprint data, the project team precisely identified key carbon reduction points. Through process optimizations such as increasing the proportion of pelletized ore in blast furnaces and raising the scrap steel ratio in converters, they systematically lowered the product's carbon intensity. Verified by a third-party institution, the product meets the requirements of the group standard “Evaluation Method for Low-Carbon Emission Steel” and achieves Carbon Efficiency Grade E.

Since 2015, Baosteel has conducted product life cycle assessment research, progressively establishing a carbon footprint accounting system covering the entire process from raw materials, production, transportation, and use to recycling. After a decade of continuous investment, Baosteel independently developed standalone LCA calculation software and built China's first integrated online system for life cycle assessment and eco-design, combining data collection, calculation, and visualization functions. The related achievements have obtained national computer software copyright. In 2024, Baosteel officially launched its two green and low-carbon brands, “BGreeREX” and “BGreeEX,” deeply integrating LCA data with product labeling to facilitate the transition of green steel products from production to market.
