Shougang Releases Industry's First Green Low-Carbon Product Series Enterprise Standards and Low-Carbon Automotive Sheet Pricing System
On September 5, Shougang unveiled the industry's first enterprise standards for a green and low-carbon product series targeting automotive steel, along with a corresponding pricing system for low-carbon automotive steel products, at the “2025 Shougang Automotive Steel and Green Low-Carbon Technology Forum.” This standard system clearly defines the concept of green low-carbon products, carbon reduction evaluation methods, benchmark comparison rules, and grade naming conventions for the first time. It covers multiple carbon reduction tiers ranging from 30% to 70%, encompassing five major categories of automotive sheet products: mild steel, bake-hardening steel, low-alloy high-strength steel, dual-phase steel, and hot-stamping steel. Strength grades span from 300MPa to 2000MPa.
To balance low-carbon attributes with high performance, the standards impose stricter upper limits on residual elements like Cu, Sn, and As than national or industry standards, while providing cross-references to comparable domestic and international grades. This facilitates a smooth transition for users from conventional products to low-carbon materials.
The supporting pricing system is benchmarked against the 2020 full life-cycle carbon footprint, incorporating optimal process pathways to address diverse customer demands regarding carbon reduction ratios, carbon footprint, and scrap steel ratios. This provides standardized support for downstream enterprises' green procurement.
Currently, Shougang possesses stable production capabilities for low-carbon automotive steel under conditions of high pellet ratio in blast furnaces and high scrap steel ratio in converters, achieving a comprehensive carbon reduction of 50% (LCA basis). These products are already supplied to multiple joint-venture automakers. With the advancement of near-zero-carbon electric furnace short-process projects, Shougang will achieve stable batch supply of products with over 70% carbon reduction in the future, continuing to lead the healthy development of the green steel market.
